Fostering Saves Lives

By fostering small animals for the ARL it enables us to make more room in our shelter so we can facilitate surrenders and house highly adoptable pets where the public may see them more readily.

When you foster we supply you with all we can based on our donations and what we have stored. Not only do you get assistance with supplies, but we also support our fosters with 24/7 support if they ever need any help, have questions on care, or there is an emergency. We work hard as small animal volunteers to create a volunteer/foster program that embodies a safe and educational environment both onsite and off.

An Introduction

The Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania's mission is "to provide temporary shelter, food, medical attention, and comfort to all abandoned, neglected and injured animals brought to us by the community; to restore lost animals to their owners or seek new homes for them, and educate the public about humane care of animals with a goal of reducing overpopulation." In the Rodent Room we feel this mission is alive each and very day as we (the volunteers) care for the smallest of homeless animals.

We receive guinea pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, birds, and various types of reptiles. Since October 2011 our shelter has cared for over 32 guinea pigs, 5 ferrets, 18 mice, 1 rat, 6 hamsters, 5 birds, and 6 gerbils. In keeping with the views of the Animal Rescue League (ARL) we care for each and every animal as they were our own and work tirelessly to find them loving and lifelong homes.
